Can you tow with the Chrysler Pacifica

Wed Mar 29, 2017 12:10 am

The 2017 Pacifica owner's manual starting on page 507/828 discussing towing. I have heard that there is no towing allowed at all and it will void the warranty however there is towing specifications in the manual. Can anyone explain this further? Wanted to upload the manual on here but I can't

There have been owners or pre owners stating that the dealer itself told them the warranty will be void if you put a hitch on the Pacifica. There also is some good points from people below, however, I don't think I would want to debate an issue I may loose my warranty with. I have also put a link to wiki warranty info site.

I am curious for more feedback from people to see the reaction of the dealership in regards to this issue.
In many states, warranty's are seen as contracts of adhesion. We have no say in the terms, so an vaguery in the language must we judged in our favor, not the favor of Chrysler. The existence of a hitch is not proof of towing. No lights would help reinforce that stance. The problem is, it would be costly and time consuming to push the issue. You may win in court, and spend more than a repair getting that win. I personally woudn't risk it, but to each their own.

On the gas model, you have to modify an underbody cover. If you have to do the same on a hybrid, even taking it off wouldn't help. Unless you took it off, had a spare unmodified cover, and touched up the paint scrapes where the brackets attach. That sounds like a **** of a lot of work to me.
I
don't think they can just void your warranty by putting on the tow hitch. They have to prove adding the aftermarket part directly contributed to whatever failure you're bringing in for the warranty. Now if your transmission fails and you have a tow hitch, you may be out of luck. But if your radio fails, I don't think they can not replace it under warranty because you have a tow hitch. May want to ask a lawyer about it to be safe if you need it.

I'm sorry to hear that... I was hoping that I would be able to tow my trailer with this model. Since it's replacing the town and country, it should have that capacity...

There is no towing for sure. Looked on other forums and asked my dealer and the warranty is void if you tow your trailer or boat

I don't know where the info above is quoted from, but on the Chrysler website, it says this:
The Chrysler Pacifica provides a Best-in-Class maximum towing capacity of 3,600 pounds to help you transport your oversized toys.
In this brochure https://www.chrysler.ca/en_dir/pdf/2017 ... cifica.pdf
On page 7, lower right corner, it states this:
Whether it’s loading up the interior with home improvement supplies or garage sale furniture, or pulling the family camper or boat, you’ll easily get it done with a towing capacity of up to 1,633 kg (3,600 lb). When you’re pulling that much weight, it’s nice to know the available Trailer Sway Control (TSC)will help keep you safely on course.
The brochure also has info on the Pacifica Hybrid, and in other places clearly states when something is different for the Hybrid model. ie. "*Second-row Stow ’n Go and 8-passenger seating not available on Pacifica Hybrid."

I take that to mean the towing capacity is the same on both the standard hybrid Pacifica and the plug-in hybrid Pacifica Hybrid models.

That's excellent news! Thanks for the post.

I wonder why a dealer would tell someone that the warranty is void if you tow!

This restores my faith in the Pacifica - seems like a great all-round vehicle.
