Plug-in hybrids are "green" if you charge them with solar or wind power but anything else and I'm not so sure how green they could be.

The recycling or the lack of recycling the lithium in the battery is a problem

Finally a used electric vehicle is not a hot item to buy - do they in turn become disposable vehicles because that will be very very very bad for the environment.

Your thoughts and opinions appreciated

There are definitely challenges to be faced... but as long as the EV is greener than an equivalent gasoline-engine vehicle, it's a step in the right direction.

We need to see a lot of improvement in the technology of batteries - batteries that are stronger and increase range, yet are environmentally friendly.

Solar roofs and carports show some promise. In fact, as solar power becomes more widespread, it will be easier to use at home to charge electric vehicles as well. Wind power is a great alternative as well, but doesn't adapt as nicely to vehicles and homes!

Forgot to respond to your last point... I think as electric vehicles become popular in the first place, the used ones will gain a following as well.
